How to do more with less and pack a hygiene punch over holidays

With less staff around, how do you keep your office bathrooms hygienic over the long break? Here are 3 simple things we recommend you do to ensure that your office bathrooms remain hygienic over the holiday period – and they won’t require you to lift a finger.

The holiday season is fast approaching and for many businesses that means a reduced staff complement in the office as employees take a break over the festive season. Some offices shut altogether between Christmas and New Year. Whilst fewer colleagues in the office means less traffic in the office bathrooms, it’s also likely to mean that cleaning staff and maintenance staff also take a well-earned rest.

So how can you ensure that hygiene levels in your workplace bathrooms remain optimal while offices are closed, or cleaning staff are on leave?

Here are 3 simple things we recommend you do to ensure that your office bathrooms remain hygienic over the holiday period – and they won’t require you to lift a finger, because Initial has got you covered.

1. Book a deep cleaning treatment

The flushing rims, fittings, and surrounding areas of workplace toilets, sinks and urinals are exposed to continuous deposits of faecal matter and other harmful bacteria that daily cleaning can’t effectively treat. This bacteria builds up throughout the year and is the leading cause of bathroom odour.

The holidays are the perfect time to book a deep cleaning treatment to take care of this build-up. A deep cleaning treatment will ensure that no matter how hot it gets over the holidays, odour-causing bacteria are eliminated so that colleagues return to a clean and hygienic bathroom after their break.

2. Double-check that you have soap, sanitiser and hand-drying solutions

Good hand hygiene practices are still the number one way to prevent the transmission of workplace illnesses. And even if you have a reduced headcount in the office, you still need to ensure that hands can be washed, dried and sanitised properly.

Employee using Initial soap dispenser

Initial has the answer. We provide fully serviced soap and sanitiser dispensers, as well as hand drying options like paper towels and the Luna hand dryer. And because our services are scheduled ahead, you can rest assured that your staff and visitors will never be out of soap – even over the holidays.

3. Clean out those sanitary bins

Many businesses think they can handle the disposal of sanitary waste themselves, and I’ve spent many blog posts explaining why this isn’t a good idea. It’s an even worse idea when it comes to the holiday period. Bathroom bins containing used sanitary towels or other feminine hygiene products are a real hygiene risk, not to mention an odour problem, and bins that are left unattended over the holiday period are going to be truly disgusting for your daily cleaners when they return to the office.

Mitigate this problem by ensuring that Initial is your sanitary waste disposal partner. Our feminine hygiene service and Signature FHU’s are discreet and hygienic and contain integral antibacterial technology to prevent the spread of harmful germs in your workplace.

So there you have it: the most important 3 things that (we believe) will ensure that your office bathrooms remain hygienic over the holiday period – and all you have to do is call Initial. We’ll do the rest
