Our most popular handwashing articles

Written by Nathalie Leblond
Cleanliness and Hygiene

It should come as no surprise to those of you who read our blog regularly that we’ve been publishing a lot of content related to handwashing lately. As the Experts in Hygiene we’ve always promoted the health benefits of good hygiene practices, and we think you’ll agree that good hand hygiene has never been more in the spotlight - or more important - than now.

And because we know it’s really hard to concentrate on too much of anything right now, we decided to do a quick round up for you of the most popular handwashing blogs on our site.

So here they are, our top 3 handwashing blog posts:

Infections you can spread by not washing your hands

Infections-spread-by-not-washing-hands

One of the very first blog posts we wrote back in 2017 looked at infections that can be spread by dirty hands. Of course, those were the good ol’ days when all we had to worry about was gastroenteritis, norovirus, and hepatitis, and coronavirus hadn’t yet entered the average person’s lexicon! Still worth a read though because all those other nasties haven’t gone away: they are still as much of a health threat as ever, and can also be prevented with good hand hygiene practices.

Minimising your COVID-19 risk

Minimising your COVID-19 risk. BUT FIRST, wash your hands

Our first real COVID-19 related post includes a to-the point (but scientific) explanation of why soap works so well in destroying viruses like COVID-19, a checklist of actions you can take to ensure a hygienic and safe workplace, as well as posters to download.

Germy Rhymes for the kids

Germy rhymes what happens when you dont wash your hands

And of course, there has to be something for the kids to round off this threesome. Our team cooked up some fun “revolting rhymes” of our own, all about germs and the risks we take when we don’t wash our hands. You can read about Flu-ey Louis or Nosy Rosie and her germy ways, and supplement these with some this short handwashing video especially for kids.

Handwashing has always been an important subject to us, and we have written lots of blog articles on the topic, but it is even more important to maintain our hand hygiene now to minimise the risk of COVID-19.

I joined Rentokil Initial South Africa in 2004 as the PA to the MD, and after 6 months maternity leave I re-joined the Company in 2009 as the Marketing Co-ordinator for Rentokil. I'm now the Marketing Communication Manager for Rentokil Initial. I'm still terrified of cockroaches (Americana's only!) but the rest of the creepy crawlies we deal with don't really bug me (see what I did there?), so I guess I'm in the right industry! I am passionate about what we do here at Rentokil Initial and also write for our Hygiene Blog, which can be found at www.initial.co.za. Life outside of Rentokil mostly revolves around my daughter, who has just turned eleven, and my husband (who is a bit older). I love living in Cape Town and wouldn't trade living here for anywhere else in the world.
