Absenteeism, presenteeism, and the economic impact of poor hygiene [INFOGRAPHIC]

I was shocked to learn that presenteeism costs the South African economy an estimated R89 billion annually.  According to a Fin 24 article, the Momentum Effective Employee Index states that the top five presenteeism factors are personal reasons, financial, physical health, workplace, and psychological reasons.

As an employer you can’t influence factors like “personal reasons” but you can review your workplace for factors that contribute to illness, providing you with the opportunity to address a portion of the 19% attributed to physical health.
