The Western Cape is still in the midst of a serious drought, and despite water restrictions having been lifted from Level 6B to a more manageable Level 3, residents cannot afford to go back to their water-wasting ways.

When one considers the growing population of the Western Cape combined with limited resources for collection of water, it’s not hard to imagine that very soon water restrictions and penalties will be permanently in place. The use of grey water should, therefore, be commonplace in all Western Cape homes. If you are saving greywater – and we really think you should be – you may not be sure about where you can and can’t use it, or how to stop it from smelling.

Here are some “rules” for using greywater safely, from how long you can keep it to where best to use it and more, in a handy infographic.
